Recently Discovered American Manuscripts to be Auctioned on iGavel.com

NEW YORK, NY – April 14, 2008 – Unpublished letters written by America’s first recognized Feminist, Frances Wright, were recently uncovered in France and are currently up for auction on iGavel.com. iGavel, the premier online fine art and antiques auction house features several important manuscripts in its April Fine Art and Antiques from Estates and Various Owners Auction, closing Thursday April 24th.

The recipient of Wright’s letters, William J. Macneven, was a prolific Irish-American physician, whose journal of travels in Long Island, NY is also up for auction. Macneven’s "The Spirit of the Age" autographed manuscript is said to be the script for an important speech he gave to the College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York City, circa 1824-1826. He married Jane Margaret Riker, of Riker Island, NY.

Frances Wright, widely known as Fanny Wright was a Scottish born lecturer, writer, freethinker, feminist, abolitionist, and social reformer. She became a U.S. citizen in 1825 after touring with General Marquis De Lafayette, with whom Wright was thought intimately connected. Among her accomplishments, she became the first woman to lecture publicly before a mixed audience when she delivered an Independence Day speech at New Harmony in 1828. Those who have given praise to Wright’s body of work include Thomas Jefferson and Walt Whitman.

Other works in iGavel’s April Fine Art and Antiques from Estates and Other Owners Auction include European and American paintings, rare books, furniture and decorative arts.

The manuscripts are being offered by Bradstreet’s, a dealer in fine art and antiques, located in Nice, France. Bradstreet’s is an Associate Seller on iGavel.com and ran the foremost scholarly rare bookshop, Pangloss Books, in Cambridge, MA.

iGavel and Litchfield County Auctions presents 22 days of Jewelry on iGavel.com

NEW YORK, NY – April 2, 2008 – iGavel.com, the online fine art and antiques auction house, is hosting a month of jewelry auctions on its site from March 28th through April 16th. iGavel Associate, Litchfield County Auctions kicked off its Jewelry sale on iGavel alongside its Modern Art and Design Auction last week. iGavel will also hold its own Jewelry Sale from March 31st to April 16th.

The Litchfield Jewelry Auction on iGavel features over 200 pieces of fine, designer and vintage jewelry, with a selection from the estate of opera diva Anna Moffo Sarnoff. One of the auction’s premiere pieces is a mid 20th century platinum and diamond bracelet set with 287 diamonds, and estimated at $8,000-12,000 US dollars. Also up for bid are several gold and diamond bracelets, including a yellow gold princess diamond bracelet, 20th C., with 55 diamonds, estimated at $5,000-7,000 US dollars, and a white gold, sapphire & princess diamond bracelet, 20th C. The piece features a total of 65 square sapphires and 3 diamonds.

Designer and vintage Jewelry collectors won’t be disappointed either. The auction includes a selection of fun items from Mrs. Sarnoff’s Estate, including 11 sterling silver jewelry items, and a mid 20th century watch made for Vacherin & Constantin. Another notable item in the sale is a 14K gold cased transistor AM/FM Radio, C. 1970, monogrammed on front ‘RWS RCA’, inscribed on reverse ‘RWS-DT & AR’, with gold wrist chain, retailed by Marvin Hine & Co., Beverly Hills, California. RWS, obviously, is for media mogul Robert Sarnoff, late husband of Anna Moffo and head of RCA.

Also available for bid on iGavel is a Verdura 14K gold inlaid sterling silver box, a gift by the late American composer and songwriter Cole Porter to his wife Linda Porter around 1928. The Early 20th Century box, retailed by Flato Jewelers (‘Jewelers to the stars’), has a 14K gold inlay monogram on its lid labeled ‘CP’. The story associated with the Cole Porter box is that each time a new Porter production opened, Cole gave a presentation box to Linda. Some of Porter’s most famous music was written for the musical ‘Anything Goes.’ This item was purchased from the ‘Cole Porter Collection of Presentation Cigarette Cases and Boxes’ by the singer Hubbell Pierce on May 17th, 1967.

Starting bids on iGavel are the reserve amount and most lots are available for first-hand inspection.

Litchfield County Auctions holds highly anticipated Modern Art and Design Auction on iGavel.com

Highlights Include Works by Marc Chagall, Paul Jenkins, and Art Owned by Diane Sawyer Closing April 9th on iGavel.com

Highlights Include Works by Marc Chagall, Paul Jenkins, and Art Owned by Diane Sawyer Closing April 9th on iGavel.com NEW YORK, NY – March 28, 2008 – Litchfield County Auction’s kicked off its Modern Art and Design Auction Wednesday on iGavel.com, the online fine art and antiques auction house. With works by important artists, from Marc Chagall to Paul Jenkins, and art owned by ABC News journalist Diane Sawyer and her husband, film director, Mike Nichols, the auction promises to be one of the year’s most exciting Modernism sales. LCA is hoping to exceed their 2007 April Auction that sold over a million dollars worth of Art, Furniture & Decorations.

The sale includes over 400 lots from East Coast estates and collections, among them the Mar A Lago home of Marjorie Merriweather Post, daughter of General Foods, Inc. founder C.W. Post. And in addition to the artists noted earlier, the auction features works by Asger Jorn, Joan Miro, and a signature piece by Enrico Donati, entitled ‘Etrusque’ 1945 which is estimated at $25,000-35,000. There are two very large and important works by Paul Jenkins from his Phenomena series, each estimated to bring $15,000-25,000 and two equally large and important paintings by Robert Natkins, one inscribed to “Dale” the Palm Beach Gardens collector. Four paintings by Pater Max, whose work Litchfield sold for record prices back in November 2007, are also live. A fun drawing by Marino Marini comes from the estate of John Douglas Hohnsbeen, friend and curator of Peggy Guggenheim's Venice Art Collection, and long time partner of Architect Philip Johnson, famous for his glass house in New Canaan, CT. And sculpture collectors will not be disappointed. A number of important works are up for bid, including a Hugo Robus bronze sculpture (estimated at $15,000-20,000), sold with its original catalog from The Forum Gallery.

LCA is also excited to bring numerous contemporary ‘virgin’ artists’ work to auction for the first time. Artists, whose works have been shown in major galleries—some as long as 30 years—but have never seen the auction block, are up on iGavel.com. Included on the list are William Thompson, Lynda Evans, Mark McKee, Margaret Rosenberg, Bill Keating, Dick Jemison, Patrick Stone, Stephen Coyle, Jens Diercks and Sylvain Tremblay. Their works have been shown in galleries from Soho, NY to Newbury Street in Boston, and from Santa Fe, New Mexico to Palm Beach, Florida. And their art is eye-catching, astonishing, extremely accomplished and unmistakably New.

New York, NY, March 13, 2008 -- Elder’s Antiques’ “Mid-Winter Auction,” hosted on iGavel.com ended with a bang last Monday as back-and-forth bidding grew the $7,000 starting price all the way up to $291,600. White water jade is known for its remarkable luminosity within the jade family. The previous highest sold lots on iGavel.com are 20th century paintings that both sold for $264,000 each. One is a modern Chinese-French painting by Zou Wu-Ki and the other is a watercolor entitled “Epsom Downs” by Raoul Dufy.
